Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday, September 8, at the age of 96. She began her reign at the age of 25, and her 70-year reign is the longest in British history. The Queen had just celebrated her historic Platinum Jubilee in June, a celebration that partly included a short film featuring the Queen and the famous Paddington Bear.

“Her Majesty is known for her sense of humor, so it is no wonder that she has decided to participate in the sketch tonight,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “There was interest in the filming and animation process and the opportunity to invite a famous bear for tea was a lot of fun. While the Queen may not attend the ceremony in person, she was very keen that people understood how much he meant to her and that everyone who watched her had a great time.”
